Classically trained as a sculptor...rounding off his formal training in the Applied Arts with a Master of industrial design from the Royal College of Art - Michael began his career designing & making one-offs, in London, in 1990. Since then, Joannidis has been navigating effortlessly through disciplines, with complete proficiency and dexterity…enabling him to extend his reach well beyond the UK; setting up shop in Los Angeles and then onto New York. Today, Studiojoannidis is based out of Montreal and is set up as a complete hands-on, multidisciplinary boutique design atelier; delivering signature projects worldwide.


Everything about this award-winning designer/maker's work aims to challenge our visual expectations anew. Well-versed in fabrication processes and fluent in materials technology – His work in interior architecture, furniture, lighting & product design has garnered much acclaim and has been the subject of many articles in national and foreign publications alike. Bringing him international critical recognition as well as numerous accolade, in each of those fields. Including an Oscar; for technical achievement in lighting design - from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.



His pieces have been exhibited in major cities, design fairs, galleries and museums such as the IMM Cologne Furniture Fair, (Koln), Centre Georges Pompidou (Paris), Modern Living (LA), National Museum of Modern Art (Kyoto), Axis Gallery (Tokyo), Peter Joseph Gallery (New York) – and has been published in various exhibition catalogues & books such as "Image and Object, Best Of British | New British Design", "L.A. Modernism Show" and “WORLD SUPER INTERIORS.”



In addition to his design consultancy, Michael also serves as senior tutor & lecturer, on the Faculties of Interior Architecture and Industrial Design, at the Université de Montréal.



Projects realized in Cebu, Cologne, Hong Kong, Kuwait, Las Vegas, London, Los Angeles, Montreal, New York and Shenzhen.
